Whistler Ski Packages

Blackcomb MountainWhistler has been a beehive of excitement since it was voted to be the Host Mountain Resort for the 2010 Winter Olympic and Paralympic Games. It isn't surprising that the IOC chose Whistler for this honor as the village has been rated the top ski destination in Canada for 15 years. It also consistently ranks in the top 5 for winter recreation destinations in all of North America.

One of the first positive side effects of winning the Olympic bid has been the expansion of the highway that links Vancouver to Whistler. Now the scenic 2 hour drive is even more accessible, yet retains the same romantic quality that makes it a favourite with travelers.

Whistler-Blackcomb

The resort town is actually called Whistler-Blackcomb, named after its two main mountains. Their elevations are 5,018 ft and 5,133 ft respectively and together these mountains create what is seen as the highest vertical drop in North America. Combine that with a record amount of snow fall per year and you have a recipe for a skier's paradise!

Whistler has been nicknamed "Little Aspen", largely due to the abundance of luxury accommodations. Considering the relatively small size of Whistler, it has an incredible amount premier hotels and resorts, as well as exquisite villas that specialize in catering to the needs of skiers, snowboarders, and alpine adventurers.

If simpler lodging is more to your taste, you can choose from a long list of everything from cozy B&B's to secluded backcountry cabins and lodges situated on and around the mountains.

The ski season in Whistler-Blackcomb often starts as early as November but for the sake of travel planning count on a late November start. By April, powder skiing is over, but Blackcomb has glacier skiing and snowboarding until the end of July. This long ski season is one of the factors contributing to the immense popularity of Whistler-Blackcomb.

Skiing and boarding aren't the only winter activities to be found in Whistler however. Snowmobile tours are a great way to get to know Whistler's beautiful surroundings, as are horse drawn sleigh rides. For something a little different, visitors often get a real "howl" out of dog sledding, and if that's too "husky" for you then you can try your hand (and feet) at snowshoeing. Of course, the new Tube Park located at the base of Blackcomb Mountain is a must-try. It has become an instant hit with kids and adults alike.
